Green Party Protests Against Announcement Of Emergency State In Khelvachauri Region Monday, February 27th, 2006

Tbilisi, February 27 (Prime-News) – The ‘Green party’ appeals to the Parliament of Georgia not to support Georgian President’s order on announcement emergency state on the territory of Khelvachauri region in Autonomous republic Adjara.
Mikheil Saakashvili, president of Georgia, has announced state of emergency on the territory of Khelvachauri region in Autonomous republic Adjara due to detection of the bird flu virus in the region on February 26.

According to Giorgi Gachachiladze, chairman of the party, by announcing the state of emergency the government declines all responsibility to pay out compensation to the population.

According to Mikheil Saakshvili’s order, Georgian government, government of the Autonomous republic Adjara and administration of Khelvachauri region should conduct coordinative work on virus detection, carrying of veterinary-sanitary, quarantine, and other prophylactic measures.

In particular, according to acting legislature, population and enterprises should be confiscated poultry and poultry keeping products for their further annihilation.
