Karl had been active in the peace movement since the 1950s, was on the WRL Executive Committee, and was a member of the WRL national staff for more than 30 years from 1973 until health problems forced him to quit a couple years ago. A prominent obituary appeared in the New York Times, which focused on his photography and ties to the art world: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/25/arts/design/25bissinger.html?_r=2&ref=obituaries Guest Book: http://www.legacy.com/NYTimes/GB/GuestbookView.aspx?PersonId=120475206 The Nonviolent Activist interview with Karl in 1996: http://www.warresisters.org/nva/nva796-2.htm Photos: http://www.artsandartists.org/exh.detail.php?sec=3 [related site: http://www.artsandartists.org/exh.detail.php?exhID=46] Papers: http://content.cdlib.org/view?docId=kt5s2027b2&chunk.id=bioghist-1.2.2&brand=oac
