Union of Concerned Scientists Urges NO NUKES
Recent email news advocacy from UCS suggested CITIZENS/VOTERS tell the Presidential Candidates to take a strong stand and get rid of nukes…offering a template letter to their favorite candidate:FINAL PARAGRAPH TEXT UCS STATEMENT:To embrace that vision, I urge you to support a no-first use nuclear weapons policy and ratification of the comprehensive test ban treaty, and to commit to working with Russia and other nations to reduce and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons. By doing so, our country will be more secure.Of course, I have been for Ralph Nader in 2000 and 2004, and will be again in 2008 IF he runs.No one needs to tell him to adopt that stand. Nader is Totally ABLE to stand for the public interest on the OBVIOUS policy for nukes…and HAS in 2000 and in 2004, and has urged impeachment of Bush and an end to his war in Iraq….as the obvious immediate necessity. For opinions from Ralph Nader, ongoing, see http://www.nader.org/ to hear what he has to say on all sorts of important policy issues. Oh yes, nukes are there, and oh yes, to him it has been always obvious that nukes are not wanted and proper policy is due urgently. In 2000 the Green Party offered the obvious non-violent conflict resolution and the image itself of PRO ENVIRONMENT…and, certainly, it goes without saying that nukes are not good for anyone, and not good for the environment, as an understatement.
